About Margaret Neville

Margaret Neville was the illegitimate daughter of Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick. She was not the daughter of Anne Beauchamp.

Note: Lancelot Threlkeld's children were most likely by his wife Elizabeth Ratcliff although some speculate that their mother was Margaret Neville. (see below: Margaret Neville "had no issue")

  • SIR RICHARD DE HODLESTON, one of the heroes of AGINCOURT, and made a KNIGHT BANNERET on that celebrated field. He served in the wars of France in the tetinue of Sir William de Harrington, K.G. whose sister, Margaret, daughter of Robert de Harrington, Lord Harrington, he had married. Sir Richard was s. by his son,
    • SIR JOHN HODLESTON, knt. Lord of Millum, who was sheriff of Cumberland in the 35th of HENRY VI. to which office he was appointed for life by the Duke of Gloucester. he represented the county in the 7th of EDWARD IV. and was keeper and bailiff of the king's woods and chases in Barnoldewicke, in the county of York, steward of Penrith, and warden of the West Marches. He m. JOANE, eldest daughter and co-heir of SIR MILES STAPLETON,|| and had three sons, viz.
      • ' I. RICHARD (Sir), knight of the Bath, who died in the lifetime of his father, 1st RICHARD III. He m. Margaret, natural daughter of Richard, Earl of Warwick, and had one son and two daughters, viz.
        • RICHARD, m. Elizabeth, daughter of Lady Mabil Dacre and d.s.p. when the estates being entailed passed to the heir male, the descendant of his uncle JOHN.
        • JOHAN, m. to Hugh Fleming, esq. of Rydal, in Westmoreland. From this marriage descended MARY FLEMING, who m. Thomas Brougham, of Scales, ancestor of LORD CHANCELLOR BROUGHAM. See BURKE'S Peerage and Baronetage.
        • MARGARET, m. to Launcelot Salkeld, of Whitehall.

      • SIR WILLIAM HODLESTON, knt. espoused the lady ISABEL NEVILL, fifth daughter of John, MARQUESS OF MONTACUTE. This lady, on the death of her brother George, duke of Bedford, divided with her four sisters as his co-heirs, the large possessions which had belonged to the MARQUESS OF MONTACUTE, her father, to SIR EDMUND INGLESTHORPE, her maternal grandfather and to JOHN TIPTOFT, EARL OF WORCESTER, her maternal great-uncle, as fully set forth in the ancient partition made on the 4th of July, 17th of HENRY VII. in the hands of the present Mr. Huddleston.
