Disputed origins

June 24, 1635 Capt Adam Thorogood secured a patent, listing Margaret as a "Bilby", then stated he planned to bequeath his goods to her father Lewis Bailey.

Dates are not adding up! Margaret Bailey born about 1615. Lewis Bailey immigrated 1621. Margaret Bailey immigrated 1635. Why would Lewis not have brought his daughter and wife assuming she was still living, with him in 1621? Who raised Margaret in England while Lewis was in America?


BIRTH: In the Priest file on WFT 7, he indicates that Margaret is the dau of Lewis Bailey. While I have no proof that this is the line, the following is of interest if the above is correct. Ref: "Adventurers of Purse and Persons, Virginia, 1607-1624/5", 1987, p. 472. "Pace Family 2, George Pace was still in minority when, 9/17/1628 as son and heir apparent of Richard Pace, dec'd, he was granted 400 acres within the corporation of James City on the south side of the River on the plantation called Paces Paine, granted to his father 5 Dec 1620...100 acres being due for personal adventure of Richard Pace and 300 acres for transportation of Lewis Bayly, Richard Irnest, John Skinner, Bennett Pulle, Roger Macker, and Ann Mason who came in the Marmaduke, 1621. Patent bk 1,p 64. Note- this places him in present day Surry Co., Virginia in the area where the Rowland family lived for several generations. John Rowland was the executor of the estate of Daniel Bayly, who d 7 Jan 1678. Surry Co., Virginia Court Records. Was Daniel Margaret's brother? Our Rowland Ancestors.
