Services held for Long time Jones County lady

Funeral services for Mrs. P.W. Sandy, were held April 22, 1968 at the Murdo Methodist Church with Rev. Carl Evana officiating.

Mrs. David Brost, organist. Active pallbearers were: Ted Tornow, Joe Novey, Bill Jones, Adolph Brost, Herman Brost, Fred Wheeler.

Due to inclement weather, burial was made Thursday, April 25, 1968 at 3:09 p.m. at the Murdo Cemetey with Hofmeisters in charge.

Margaret Hannah Williams was born May 26, 1895 to Thomas R. and Catherine Williams at Wales, Iowa. She was the second eldest of eight children. She spent her early years in Elliott, Iowa and graduated from high school at Gretna, Nebraska. Immediately following graduation, she began her life-long career of as a public school teacher, first teaching in a school near Gretna..

On June 21, 1916 Margaret married Pink William Sandy at her parent's home in Burwell, Nebraska. The newlyweds farmed at Gretna until 1938. In 1912 Pink homesteaded a farm south of Okaton, South Dakota and from time to time the family lived there until establishing a permanent residence in 1938. Following the second world war in 1945, Margaret returned to teaching and continued so until her retirement in 1964. She taught in Okaton, rural Okaton, 13 years in Murdo and finally the Scovil school north of Okaton.

Since retiring Margaret and Pink have traveled and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1966.

Mrs. Sandy entered McKennen Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D. on Good Friday and died of a heart attack April 19, 1968 at the age of 72. During her life she was active in The Methodist Church, Royal Neighbors, and V.F.W. Auxilliay.

She was preceded in death by he parents in 1929 and 1944, 3 sisters: Esther at birth, Rebecca Kilma, Salina Darling, one brother William Williams, one grandchild Deana Neil Sandy.

Remaining to mourn are her husband Pink Sandy, 5 children Maurine Howell of Bristow, Nebraska; Helen Newsome of Cody, Wyoming; Warren Sandy of Laird, Colorado; Margie Esmay of Murdo, S.D.; and Dean Sandy of Okaton, S.D.; 15 grandchildren; 2 brothers and 1 sister; Elizabeth Barnes of Bensonvill, Illinois; Walter Williams of Nodaway, Iowa; Thomas Williams of Ord, Nebraska, and many friends.
