The marriage was booked on 9 January 1741, at East Kilbride in Lanarkshire, Scotland Scottish Marriages and at Avondale there on 10 January 1741 Scottish Marriages The booking at East Kilbride reads as follows: "Thomas Steele in the paroch of Evendale and Margaret Wardrop in this paroch gave up their names to be proclaimed in order to marriage January 9th 1741 and being orderly proclaimed were married."
