William Nichols' history of the Hoge family quotes Virginia Historical Collections as follows ... Robert White, a surgeon in the British Navy, who having visited his relative, William Hoge, then residing in Delaware, fell in love with his daughter, Margaret, whom he married and with whom accompanied by her parents, he emigrated to Virginia and made his home near the North Mountain, on a creek which still bears the name of White.
