From a Swedish forum, Anbytarforum: Holmgren Anders / Andrew Petter 1881 has some interesting information regarding Johan Ericksson and Margareta Ericka Holmgren, including destination and ship of arrival "The Hero" with the "Allan Line." They departed from Alanas Jamtland - the Greyling Sea - in late May and went on to Trondheim Norway - final destination Emerson, Manitoba which was the main border crossing into the USA at the time.

Johan E Holmgren B: June 1855 (age 74 years - which has to be a mistake but that's what it says) Married 16 years. Arrival date 1889. Naturalized citizen: No. Can read and write: Yes. Can speak English: No 11 years in the US / Owns his own farm. Free of mortgage.

Margareta E Holmgren. B: Sept 1860 (age 39) Married 16 years. Mother of 10 children - 8 living.11 years in the US. Can read and write: yes. can speak English: No.

Children: Andrew, Hedvin, Engla, Nannie, Fabian and Clens A B: Mar 1900

Directly below this family on the census report is Elias Lofstrom (in country 11 years) and Sara mother of 7 children all living. (although there are only six listed on the census - No Julia?) Elias appears to be the only adult in this group of six adults who can speak English - he can read but can not write. Jonas and Marie (married 5 years and in country 4 and 3 years resp.) and 2 children, George (age 4) and Leo (age 1).

Albin Holmgren - working as a servant for Leo Bergstrom - as well as August E Blom and his MIL Sara Christina Lofstrom appear on the previous page. Her daughter Gertie Blom does not appear on this census.

A Z (Anders Zakarias) Holmlund (age 69) and family appear on page 1.
