1. Joshua Hadley before 1735 in Pennsylvania, son of Simon II Hadley and Ruth Keran Miller. He was born 6 MAY 1703 in County Kings, Ireland, and died 1760 in Cane Creek MM, Orange Co., North Carolina. [partnership, not marriage]
2. Richard Ashmore ABT 1737 in Pennsylvania. He was born ABT 1705, and died 1747.
3. John Nelson ABT 1748. He died 1754 in York Co., Pennsylvania.
4. William Mcgarraugh ABT 1756. He died 1759.
5. James Dixon ABT 1760. He died 1768 in York Co., Pennsylvania.

Children include

1. Joshua Hadley b: ABT 1735 in North Carolina
2. Edy Ashmore b: ABT 1740
3. James Samuel Ashmore b: 4 NOV 1742 in Hartford Co., Maryland

Ashmore died in 1747, Nelson died in 1754, McGarraugh died in 1759, Dickson died in 1767 Dickson did not name a wife but in the court records he is named.

From New Garden MM Men's Minutes, Chester County, Pennsylvania:

• 1st Mo. (March) 27, 1736: Complaint from New Garden Preparative Meeting: "Margery Lindley says she is with Child by Joshua Hadley which he denyes yt she says true & he has since gone and married an other young woman by a priest therefore this meeting appoints Michael Lightfoot, Joseph Sharpe & Wm Miller to Endeavor to have Joshua and Margery together & here what they have to say & to prepare a Testimony for ye Clearing of Truth."
• 2nd Mo. (April) 24, 1736: "Joshua Hadley declining to meet those appointed before Margery Lindley A Testimony is signed against each of them & Isaac Jackson Senr to see them read to Newgarden and send Joshua's to Notingham that friends there may have such use of it as they think proper."
• 3rd Mo. (May) 29, 1736: New Garden Preparative Meeting informs that James Harlan "was assistant to Joshua Hadley in his marriage by ye priest and it was intimated several times Drinks strong Liquor to excess."

James Samuel Ashmore - born 4 Nov 1732 in Harford Co., Maryland Colony. He was the son of Richard Ashmore and Margery Lindley. James was one of the rabble-rousers who was determined to annoy, harass and set back the cause of our fledgling country's British oppressors. So in an act of covert defiance, on 2 May 1771, James - along with his half-brother, Joshua Hadley, and several other men - burned a gunpowder train that was on its way to Tory General Waddell, which was intended to be used against the group of colonists protesting the unreasonable taxes being imposed upon them by the Brits. This group of men became known as The Black Boys of Cabarrus County, North Carolina, due to them blackening their faces before setting out on their destructive mission. ...

To wife not named 200 acres of land being 1/2 of the tract I now live on and all personal estate she to pay for the 600 acres I have got an order to have surveyed of the land of Sir John Faggs. To sons Thomas, James, Robert and William 200 acres of land each when 21, that is the above 600 acres divided into 3 equal parts and the remaining half of the tract I now live on. To son Jonathan the plantation I now live on at death of wife. To daughter Rachel 20 at 21. To daughter Margarey 20 at 21. To daughter Elizabeth 20 at 21. To daughter Hannah 20 at 21. Also provides for a child yet to be born. To son James the smith tools. Executors: wife Elinor and son Thomas. Witnesses: Susanna , Elish Maxwell, John Jordan.

" ... This court record names Margery as the late widow of John Nelson and before that the late widow of Richard Ashmore of Lancaster Co. Then Margery widow of William McGarraugh m a James Dickson , his will is dated in 1767 in York Co. Pa. This fourth husband did not name a wife, so Margery must have died but did name three daus in the will. Margery Lindley was an unwed mother then a widow three times from 1747 to 1759. Guess she was worn out from having so many husbands and kids by 1767. ..."

The early spring 1760 Orphan court records of York Co. Pa. show where William McGarraugh and wife Margery went to court to get the inheritance from Richard Ashmore's estate. Willaim died before they could get the money. Then in the late fall of 1760 James Dixon and wife Margery, late widow of William McGarraugh, former widow of John Nelson and Richard Ashmore went to court to get the Ashmore inheritance. They got the money plus interest for; Margery, Joshua Hadley (he was grown at this time and probably left the Lindley name off), son James Ashmore and daughter, Edy Ashmore. James Ashmore and Joshua Hadley were both on the tax list for York Co. Pa. in 1760, living seperate from each other and mother, Margery, so I assume they had both married. Since James Dixon did not name a wife in his will I assume Margery had died by 1767 or she could have migrated with her two son who were found in 1771 in Mechlenburg Co. N.C. Joshua Hadley died in Cabarrus Co. N.C. but James Ashmore migrated to Tn. The Orphan court records also reenforce the fact that Margery was the widow of Richard Ashmore, John Nelson and William McGarraugh.
