Biography
Margery, the wife of John Knowlton, has long been identified as Margery Wilson.[1]This was due to the line in her will making "my brother Wilson my overseer."
Research has proved this to be an error. From the will of Jane Kenning of Ipswich, 14 Feb 1653: "do make my two sisters Elisabeth Wilson and Margery Knowlton to be my Executrixes...to John Knowlton ... and to the rest of my sisters Children .... Elisabeth Knowlton Elisabeth Wilson Seaborne Wilson, & Abraham Knowlton ... To my brother Wilsons sone Thomas .... & the rest for my mothers use during her life ..."[2]
Margerie, daughter of L___ Keininge (spelling unclear) was baptized 30 May 1602, at St. John the Baptist Church, Hillingdon, England[3] The marriage of Luke Kenninge and Ami Raynor had taken place a few years earlier, verifying his first name and identifying her mother.[4]
The marriage of Margery Kenning and John Kolton took place 12 June 1632, at Saint Matthew Friday Street, London, England.[5]
