About Maria Sophia Hazekamp

Maria Sophia van den Berg (= of/from the Mountain) was born in January 1852 in the village of Amerongen, located in the southeastern part of the Dutch central province Utrecht, daughter of Nelis van den Berg and Neeltje van Ree.

Mary emigrated in 1867 or 1869 to the USA, Illinois, very probably to Chicago, Cook County.

On October 31, 1876 her father Nelis Vandenberg was naturalized by a Circuit Court in Cook County, Illinois, very probably in Chicago.

In June 1880 Mary (28 years old, born in Holland), her husband John Hazekamp (31, Holland, gardener), their children Katy (8, Illinois), Nellie (6, Illinois), Carrie (3, Illinois), Neelis (4, Illinois) and John (0, Illinois) were living in Englewood town, nowadays a southern district of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

On November 6, 1883 they had in Chicago a daughter (Clara), and on September 12, 1885 a daughter too (Jennie).

In June 1900 Mary (48, born in January 1852 in Holland, immigrated in 1867, mother of 4 deceased and 6 living children), her husband John Hazekamp [wrongly transcribed as Harekamp] (51, June 1849, Holland, immigrated in 1867, truck farmer), their children John (20, February 1880, Illinois, farm laborer), Mary (19, December 1881, Illinois), Clara (17, November 1883, Illinois), Jennie (15, September 1885, Illinois, stenographer), their granddaughter Martha Swart (4, February 1896, Illinois), son-in-law Peter Piersma (26, March 1874, Holland, core maker at a foundry), daughter Nellie Piersma (26, January 1874, Illinois) and grandson Henry Piersma (1, December 1899, Illinois) were living at their own farm at 10730 Wentworth Avenue in Calumet Township, Ward 34 of -south- Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, where also the boarders Tunis Slingerland (18, June 1880, Illinois, express driver) and his brother Abraham Slingerland (23, August 1877, Illinois, express driver) were living.

In April 1910 Mary S (58, immigrated in 1869), her husband John Hazekamp (60, immigrated in 1867, truck farmer) and their granddaughter Martha Swart (14) were living in ward 33 of -south- Chicago, Cook County Illinois.

Her husband John Hazekamp died in July 1916 at the age of 67 years in Cook County, Illinois, very probably in Chicago. Widow Maria S. died there very probably too, in May 1918, at the age of 66 years.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Nov 16 2019, 23:32:43 UTC
