- In February 2001 four men charged with the murder, rape and robbery of 83-year-old Molteno widow Maria Jordaan made a brief appearance in the Grahamstown High Court. Wilson Martinisi (47), Yebuthi Thomas (19), Simphiwo Thomas (21), and John Booysen (33), were not asked to plead and will appear on 19th March in the Grahamstown High Court. The state is still organising legal representation for the men with the exception of Simphiwo who has opted to conduct his own defence. Initially all four the accused wanted to conduct their own defence, but were persuaded by Judge Johan Froneman to seek legal representation.
- Maria's gardener, the main suspect, admitted in the Grahamstown high court that he became a police informer and turned state witness.
