About Maritje ‘Maria’ Meijnderts Montague

Biography

Maritje Meijnderts (or Meijnerts) was born and baptized in Amsterdam on 14 December 1645 [1][2]

Mary's father was born Meindert Doedes(z) in Holland. When he came here they accidentally wrote his name: "Minor Doodes". The name Meindert is pronounced: minor. Therefore technically Mary's actual last name was Meijnderts (patronymic), but in most documentation you will find her surname written: "Minor." [3]

Peter Montague, (son of Peter) born about 1638 in what became Nansemond Co., Virginia, married, before 1665, Mary Minor, daughter of Meindert Doodes and his wife Mary, who were living in Nansemond, 1656.

Children:

  4. Elizabeth (did not marry)
