About Peter Montague, IV
Peter Montague IV married Elizabeth Merry, daughter of Thomas Merry of Denbigh Parish, Warwick County. The connection is documented in a deed from Peter to his "father-in-law" Thomas Merry of 24 Feb 1695/6. Peter's will was administered 1 Mar 1702/3, and on the same day Thomas Meris(Merry) gifted a slave to his daughter Elizabeth Montague, with reversion to her sons Thomas and Peter Montague. Elizabeth then remarried to Rice Curtis in 1703.
NB1: Elizabeth's maiden name is sometimes spelled Meris, but likely pronounced at the time Merry. The modern version could be either Morris or Merrry. NB2: Peter's son Peter V married a cousin also named Elizabeth Merry. This leads to some confusion between the two in some trees.
