Pauline was the daughter of Franz 'Otto' Raasch and Marie Burmeister. Otto was 6 years old when his parents Wilhelm and Louise Raasch (both age 33) from Alt Dammerow, Pomerania, Prussia, Germany immigrated to South Africa with his siblings Herman (8) Gustav (4) and Carl (3). Otto and Marie had 9 children: Louise married Paul Brugmann, Auguste married Theophilus Berndt, Anna married Alexander Andreka, Herman August, Wilhelmina married Hugo Berndt, Edward, Friedrich, Julius and Pauline.
