About Mariam Soltan Begum Gilani

Maryam Begum (Persian: مریم بیگم‎) was a Safavid princess, who was a daughter of shah Tahmasp I (r. 1524–1576) and in 1577 married the Kia'i ruler Khan Ahmad Khan—they later had an unnamed son and daughter named Yakhan Begum. Maryam Begum died in 1608/9.

When Tahmasp I Safavi died in 1576, Ismail, his son, was freed by his Qizilbash supporters, who shortly killed his brother Haydar Mirza Safavi, due to his claim to the throne. They thereafter crowned him as the new shah. After his accession, he ordered

Ismail II was assassinated the following year, and was succeeded by his older but weaker brother Mohammad Khodabanda, who, at the proposal of his queen Khayr al-Nisa Begum (who was a close relative of Khan Ahmad Khan) had Khan Ahmad Khan released.

He was thereafter taken to Qazvin, where Mohammad Khodabanda gave him one of his sisters (Maryam Begum) in marriage and restored him as the ruler of Bia-pish.

Princess Maryam Sultan Begum (1551 – Isfahan, 1608), married firstly Khan Ahmad Khan governor of Gilan, m. (second) as his second wife, Mir Nematu’llah Yazdi Zu’l-Nurain, eldest son of Amir Ghiyas ed-din Muhammad Yazdi Mir-i-Miran, having had issue one daughter and one son, by her first husband.
