Marisa Elizabeth du Toit (1978 - 1999)
Brief overview:
Marisa (21), and her two friends from Stellenbosch, Dorian Carl Janse van Rensburg (25), and (Jean) Audrey Myburgh, were attacked by five armed males at the at the Franschoek Pass viewing spot on 7th July 1999. Dorian was shot in the head at close range. Marisa and Audrey were ordered to jump down the cliff. When they landed a few metres below, they were both shot. Marisa died from the gunshot. Audrey miraculously survived after pretending to be dead. The bullet had narrowly missed a main artery.

- Audrey, a key witness, testified at the hearing where Heinrico Pietersen (18), Morne Lakay (23), Dawid Williams (23) and Jehan Abrahams (27) were found guilty and sentenced to two life terms for murder, and also found guilty of the attempted murder of Audrey, by Justice Deon van Zyl. He granted indemnity from prosecution to the other key witness, Patrick van Schalkwyk, a former co-accused, as Van Schalkwyk had told the truth in a spontaneous and logical way.
