About Marjorie Townley Allan
Malyon and Marjorie Allan were on the flight with their daughter, Jane Allan. Son and brother David Allan previously told the Herald his father had taught at the Royal Navy College in London where mountaineer Peter Mulgrew – also TE901’s in-flight commentator - was one of his students after WWII. “That’s why he chose to go on the flight.” Malyon Allan’s father, squadron leader David Allan, a flying instructor, also died while flying. In 1940 David Allan died when he fell 850 metres to the ground from a Tiger Moth flying near Māngere aerodrome. It was later found his harness had failed when his student did a roll.
