Martha BESSON was the foruth child of four children born to Captain Thomas Phillip BESSON, Sr. and his second wife Hester who had previously been married to Henry CAPLIN.

By his first wife Anne unknown Anne BESSON was first born 1638 in Plymouth, Devon, England. Their second child Thomas BESSON, Jr was born in 1741 in England. Apparently the wife Anne died about 1650 shortly after arriving about 1648 in America at the port of Annapolis Maryland with her husband and two young children.

The two children of Captain Thomas BESSON, Sr. and his first wife Anne were:

  • 1. Anne BESSON, born 1638 England, died 1692 Anne Arundel County, Maryland, married 1672 Nicholas GASSAWAY

Apparently by 1650 Captain Thomas Phillip BESSON, Sr. was a widower in the new country and a new community of Anne Arundel County, Maryland with a twelve year old daughter Anne and an nine year old son Thomas who needed a mother. He soon found a widow Hester (TALBOT?) (CAPLIN) who had just arrived in America whose husband Henry CAPLIN had died soon after their arrival at the port of Annapolis Maryland. Thomas and Hester were most likely married by 1652 in All Hallows Parish, Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

  • 3. Thomas Besson ‘the Younger
  • 4. Martha BESSON, born 1662, died 19 Oct 1719. married 1679 Nicholas ALDRIDGE IV’

Martha married her neighbor Nicholas ALDRIDGE IV in 1679 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland when she was 17 and he was 26. The name BESSON has been more typically spelled BEESON by the descendants.

The children of Martha BEESON and Nicholas ALDRIDGE IV included:

  • 1. Thomas ALDRIDGE, born 05 Nov 1680, died 15 Jul 1703, married 15 Jul 1702 Elizabeth Purdy
