Parents are unproven
Family
David Ellington, Sr. was the son of John Ellington Sr. (d before 1755 in Amelia, Virginia) and his wife Sabrina. His wife was Martha.

David Ellington witnessed a deed with father John in 1726 in Bristol Parish. He had to be at least 18 yrs old so his estimated birth date is Abt 1708. He died before 11 May 1774 when his will was proven.
David Ellington is mentioned in “History of Bristol Parish” (Ferry Chappel Church) Prince George County, VA in 1732. In his Will (Amelia County, VA on 5 Nov 1773 he mentions wife Martha, children Jeremiah, David, Josiah, Hezekiah, Enoch Ward, Stephen , Lucy Tanner, Martha Mottley, Obedience Evans, and Sarah.

The maiden name of the wife of David Ellington, Sr is unproven to be Tucker.
It is difficult to give up a line of such distinction as the Tucker line in early Virginia, but if there are no valid sources then it is not genealogically correct to give someone a new middle name just to link these two families.
Research Note
The birth date of 29 Aug 1719 that is widely attributed to Martha is actually the birth date recorded in Bristol Parish for ANNE daughter of Capt. Robert Tucker.who was baptized 9 Oct 1720.
There is absolutely NO mention that her name was ever Martha Ann.
The will of Capt. Robert Tucker written in 1744 does NOT mention any daughter named Martha nor Ann. Nor any grandchildren named Ellington. It is believed that Ann Tucker died unmarried before his will was written.
The maiden name of Martha, wife of David Ellington is unknown.
Family connections and living near one another does not mean that there is a blood relationship. Having Ellington's witnessing the will of her brother Joseph Tucker is not proof.
Years ago, the big discussion on Message Boards and Ancestry was to try to find out whether Martha was a Tucker or a Fowlkes. A few trees on Ancestry began to appear with Martha and Ann combined with Ann's Tucker's birthdate. Then it spread all over Ancestry as genealogy was tossed out in favor of the "pretty tree" and cut and paste era.
I (Mary Gresham) spent hours and days running out all the Tucker lines from the earliest immigrant in Virginia to see if I could find her father Tucker. Some speculated she was the daughter of Daniel, but that does not line up. So, to be genealogically correct without a valid source such as land transfer, deed, will, bible, etc. her maiden name is unknown.
If you have proof that her name is Tucker, please submit the sources. Having Ellington's witnessing Joseph Tucker's will is not proof.
Will of Robert Tucker
n 1727, Capt. Tucker acquired some 500 acres on Wotocamaick Creek and Middle Creek.
In October 1741, he deeded to his son John, 165 and 1/2 acres for L100; to son George 200 acres for L70; and to son Robert 165 acres for L100.
In August 1744, he acquired 176 acres in Amelia County (after Amelia County was formed from Brunswick and Prince George Counties in 1734).
Capt. Robert Tucker died in Amelia County in 1750.
His wife, followed by his son Daniel, inherited this parcel of land. Also named in his Will were children Joseph, Sarah, and Robert.
An abstract of his Will is found in Will Book 1, Amelia County, VA., p. 63:
Robert Tucker, written 26 September 1744 and proven 18 May, 1750.
Wit. John Cordie, Jr., Henry (x) Hasten, John Powell. Ex. son Robert.
Leg. wife Martha, land and plantation on where I live for life; then to son Daniel; son Joseph, daughter Sarah Clay; son Robert; rest of personal estate to be equally divided between my children. No appraisement to be made. Slaves: Negro men Joe, Dick; Negro girl, Sall.
Marriage
Husband: David Ellington, son of John Ellington, Sr.
Date: About 1736
Place: Amelia, Virgini 1]
Note: An edit to Find a Grave for a correction to the memorial for Martha Ann Tucker dated 4 June 2022 by Mary Gresham
Please take this kindly, but I am so old that I remember the lengthy discussions on message boards when the search for Martha's parents was going on in the early days of Ancestry trees.
People were determined to make her fit into the Tucker family so they took Anne, dau of Robert Tucker born on 29 Aug1719, baptized 9 Oct 1720 and added Martha's name to hers and gave this new Martha Ann the birth date of Anne Tucker.
This is just the worst case of genealogy mishaps ever. Just because several Ellington's witnessed Ann's brother Joseph Tucker's will does not mean that Martha, wife of David Ellington was a Tucker.
If you don't do anything else, just make a note in the biography that her last name is disputed.
Robert Tucker did not name a daughter Anne nor Martha nor any Ellington grandchildren in his will.
There is absolutely no proof. It is just fantasy and such a shame because it shut off valid research for the future as people believe in the "gold standard" of Find a Grave for accuracy.
Thank you,
Mary Gresham

Sarah “Sally” Tucker (m: John Jesse Clay); had 3 children. ________________________ ________________________ Further TUCKER Connection to the ELLINGTON's:
~~ Martha Ann Tucker Ellington's Brother, "Joseph Tucker", made his will on 6-1-1793. Probate of his will was granted in court on 6-18-1798. (Will Bk. 3, p. 123 of Prince Edward Co., VA). His sister, Martha Ann, & her husband, David Ellington, Sr.; & his sister, Sally Tucker m: Clay; & his brother, Daniel Tucker, were all dead when he made his will in 1793.
- ** His Sons, Joseph Tucker, Jr. & Wood Tucker; & nephew-by -marriage, "Daniel Ellington" (who was the son of Daniel Ellington & nephew of Martha Ann's husband, David Ellington, Sr.) are listed as his 3 Executors. "Sally Ellington, John Ellington, & Daniel Ellington” are also witnesses to his will. ~~ Marth Ann's Brother, "Daniel Tucker", (1724-1792) made his will in Wade Co., NC on 4-15-1792. He died between April 15 & Dec. 1792. Only Brother Joseph was still alive.
- ** One of his 13 Children who was named in his will was his Daughter, "Sally Tucker", who married "Daniel Ellington". Daniel Tucker, Sr. named 3 executors to his will: son-in-law, Daniel Ellington; son-in-law, Batt Fowler (married to daughter Mason Tucker); & his son, Pascal Tucker. *** ________________________ ________________________ “Martha Ann Tucker” MARRIED “David Ellington, SR” in 1735.
----------------------------------
DAVID ELLINGTON, SR. was born in 1713 or 1718 @ Prince George Co., VA. This gets a little tricky as to his death; he "made his will" on 11-5-1773 @ Nottoway Parish, Amelia Co., VA. One account (of ‘many' varying accounts) said he died on 5-11-1774 which was the spring after he made the will in Nov. So, I tend to think he did die on 5-11-1774.
HIS FATHER was "John Ellington, SR. or IV" who arrived in 1712 (according to a NASA biography called "Ellington Field, a Short History") OR in 1717 (according to Ancestry.com where a passenger list to Virginia showed a "John Ellington" arriving in 1717 "with father John" stated as 'another' John Ellington. They were listed as "appraiser & surveyor".)
So, David SR. had a Father named John SR. as well as a Brother named John JR. [who was married to Sarah Sabrina (or Sabina) Worsham]. Brother John JR. is listed as a Patriot in the SAR = P#334027.
HIS MOTHER is unknown as-of-yet. __________________
- ** DAVID ELLINGTON, SR. married to Martha is listed in the SAR for The Rev. War as a Patriot = P# 341805. ***
----------------------------------
MARTHA ANN & DAVID ELLINGTON, SR. had 10 Children who all lived to adulthood & prospered…quite a feat in the mid 1700's!
THEIR CHILDREN:
- = service during The Rev. War. It seems these Ellington's "gave goods & supplies for the war effort" while the 1 son-in-law was a supply agent (Martha's husband) & the other son-in-law actually "fought in The Rev. War" (Obedience's husband).
1. Martha (1736--1780); m: Joseph Motley, III in 1750.
- "Martha Ellington Motley" = There are So Many stories about: how she protected the whereabouts of her husband, Capt. Motley, from the Tories; how she would not divulge to the Tories where the supplies were kept for The Rev. War effort; & how she was stabbed & left weak & unconscious by the raiding Tories; & some say she "died for her country". I don't know. She was attempting to recover from the birth of her "11th. child @ age 44" when the Tories attacked her in her bed! The Rev. War ended in 1783; Martha died in 1780. She "could be" a true heroine of The Rev. War!
- "Joseph Motley III" served as a Captain under George Washington during The French & Indian War (1754-1763). He was a "supply agent" for The Continental Army during The Rev. War (hence, the Tories wanting to know where the supplies were stored from Martha). This is perhaps "why" most of the Ellington's "supplied goods & materials to The Continental Army" because of their brother-in-law Motley holding this particular position as supply agent.
2. Jeremiah (1737--1796); m: Frances (Fanny) Jones.
- Jeremiah Ellington supplied beef to The Continental Army during The Rev. War. The SAR lists him as a Patriot = P # 153873.
3. Lucy (1739--1802); m: Joel Tanner; lived in Wilkes Co., GA.
4. "DAVID, JR." (9-7-1741—1-2-1820); m: Jerusha Fowlkes in 1765; Jerusha died 6-28-1789; m: Jane Harrison on 1-6-1790. David JR., Jerusha, & Jerusha's cousin John were "Separate Baptists". They petitioned Amelia Co., VA court to gather in the home of George Walton in 1768 to worship. DAVID JR. was a Baptist Minister in 1771 in Amelia Co. VA; he continued that from 1781-1791 in Lunenburg Co., VA. -David married Jane Harrison in Prince Edward Co., VA on 1-6-1790. She was the daughter of William Harrison.
- "DAVID ELLINGTON, JR." [Patriotic Service, VA] according to "Soldiers & Patriots of GA" website. The SAR also lists him as a Patriot = P # 153870.
5. Josiah (1743--1819); m: Mary Cunningham; m: Elizabeth Bruce.
6. Obedience (1745--1827); she died in Hancock, GA; m: Stephen Evans, Jr.; there were 13 children from this marriage;
- "Stephen Evans, Jr." was a corporal in "The VA Militia" during The Rev. War.
7. Sarah (1750--1782); m: John Page. Sarah married John Page. She was dead before 11-28-1782 when he married Elizabeth Wilkerson. John Page died in Lunenburg Co., VA in 1786 & identified "David Ellington Page" as a minor son in his will. Sarah's brother, David Ellington JR., witnessed Page's will.
8. Hezekiah, Sr. (2-23-1753—1793); m: Ridley Ann Bruce.
- "Hezekiah Ellington" provided beef & a gun to The Continental Army during The Rev. War.
9. Enoch Ward (1754--1826) m: Sarah Woodson in 1779; m: Judith Woodson (her sister) in 1780; m: Nancy Blankenship in 1816.
10. Stephen (1757--?); m: Frances Williams.
- "Stephen Ellington" provided beef to The Continental Army during The Rev. War.
--------------------------------------------------
- ** DAVID SR.'s Brother "John Ellington, JR." lent a horse & also provided beef & bacon to The Continental Line during The Revolutionary War said one account. Then this: "Ellington, John: Service: VA Rank: Patriotic Service: Description: 'He rendered material aid.' This was according to Abercrombie & Slatten, VA Rev. Public Claims, Volume 1." *** ________________________ "Martha Ann Tucker Ellington" lost her husband, David SR. in 1774. According to records, she lived with her son, David JR., following her husband's death. She died on 5-9-1782 @ Lunenburg Co., VA.
