About Martha Mayo

Martha TABB was born in Matthews County (former Gloucester County), Virginia, United States on March 8, 1744. She was the child of WILLIAM TABB Sr. (b Feb 25 1702) and GOULD, SUSANNAH (b Feb 23 1717).

Martha had at least six brothers: TABB, John (Dec 13 1734); TABB, Robert (Jan 23 1737); TABB, Thomas (Jun 19 1742); TABB, William Jr. (Nov 09 1745); TABB, Edward (Sep 28 1748); TABB, GEORGE Sr. (Nov 14 1750). Martha had at least two sisters: TABB, Mary (Jul 08 1733) and TABB, Frances (Jul 29 1753).

When she was 20 years old, her father TABB, WILLIAM Sr. died (d Jan 02 1765). When she was 61 years old, her mother GOULD, SUSANNAH died (d Sep 1805).

On Sep 03 1761, she married MAYO, Joseph (b 1739) in Kingston Parish, Gloucester County, Virginia, United States. She was 17 years old when she married MAYO, Joseph, who was 22 years old at that time.

Martha’s sister, Mary, also married a Mayo - John. John MAYO was the brother of Martha’s husband Joseph MAYO. (They were the sons of famed Colonial American surveyor Col. William MAYO (b 1684) and his wife Ann PERRATT (b 1701).

Martha lived in Powhatan Seat plantation, Richmond, City of Richmond, Virginia, United States.

The Mayo family, descendants of the city’s original surveyor William Mayo (mentioned above), had lived for generations at a house called by them “Powhatan’s Seat,” on the hill east of Richmond, Va. This homestead probably was the original location of the local village of the Chief Powhatan’s own tribe, which included his daughter, Pocahontas.

Martha’s husband MAYO, Joseph died on Jun 17 1802.
