Martha Reade was born on July 13 and baptized on July 22, 1602 at North Benfleet, Essex, England, the daughter of Edmund and Elizabeth (Cooke) Reade of Wickford, Essex, England. [1] [2]

Martha married Daniel Epes of London, England by about 1621. [3]

In the will of her grandfather Thomas Cooke the elder of Pebmershe, Essex, written on August 30, 1621, he bequested his grandchild, Edmund and Elizabeth Reade's daughter, Martha Reade, now wife of ___ Epps of London, L10. [2]

Her father Edmund Reade's will, dated on November 20, 1623, mentions Daniel Epps and my daughter Martha Epps, and their children Elizabeth and Daniel. [3]

Her husband Daniel was buried at London on June 26, 1630. [3]

After his death, she married second c 1637, Samuel Symonds, as his second wife. [4] [5]

Martha died about 1662. Her death date is unknown, but her son Daniel testified that before her death, his mother had told him that Mr. Humphrey Vincent, in his will written on January 1, 1661, had left the majority of his estate to Samuel Symonds, Daniel's stepfather. [6]

After her death, Samuel married third, the widow, Rebecca Worcester. [5] He wrote his will on February 16, 1673. In it he left bequests to the following, among others: [7]

  • my son and daughter Epps
  • my son and daughter Emerson
  • my daughter Dunkin
  • my son Chewte ( ie. husband of stepdaughter Elizabeth Epes Chute)
  • my wives grand daughter Rebecca Stacey [7]

As his son William, executor of the above estate, died intestate, without making provisions for the estate division, on June 18, 1680, administration of Samuel's estate was granted to Mrs. Rebecca Symons, widow, eldest son Harlakinden Symons, and Daniel Epps, husband to Samuel's eldest living daughter Elizabeth.
