Martie (80), a pensioner living in Louis Trichardt, was found lying in a pool of blood inside her home on Thursday 23rd September 2021. She had sustained multiple deep cut wounds.

Martie's son, who is a warrant officer in the police, asked a colleague to go and check on his mother when he was unable to contact her.

"On arrival at the house, she apparently knocked several times without an answer and when entering the house, she allegedly found the old woman lying in a pool of blood,” said provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo."

The Makhado Police are searching for a man named Trevor Gumbu, a Zimbabwean national, who worked for Martie.

  • Update 28/09/2021: Trevor Gumbu was arrested by the police in Musina while trying to cross the Limpopo River at Tshikundo into Zimbabwe. According to Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the 27-year-old accused murderer was driving the vehicle. “The motor vehicle, a Toyota Hilux bakkie, was also recovered," he said.
