The Birth Date is a rough estimate. See the text for details. :
On 5 March 1690 "An Invintary of the estat of Samwell Chadwick of Reden desesed 26 febrewary 1690" was made. It contained a dwelling house and land, a pair of oxen and other livestock, normal household goods, firearms & books, totaling £66.02.00. Debts totalled £10.14.00, owed to Daniel Smith of Charlestown gunsmith, Joseph Richardson Sr., and several others.[3]
On 07 April 1691, "... my former husband Samll. Chadwick ... deceased without a will and left me two small children to bring up, and only this small estate to pay the abovesaid debts & to maintaine my selfe & children ... I pray that your honor. would please to grant administration to my husband that I now have, and so setle the above estate as the law may be sattesfyed & no wrong to partyes concerned ... Mary Harndine... " "Administration was granted to Benjamin Harnden & his wife Mary Harnden on the estate of Samll Chadwick"[4]
There are three births recorded in the Woburn Vital Records for Samuel and wife Mary:
Mary, b. 1685, m. Joel Jenkins Martha, b. 1687, d. 1688 Martha, b. 1689, n.f.i. With her second husband, Benjamin Harnden, she had[5]:
Elizabeth, b. 1692 Hannah, b. 1694 Benjamin, b. 1697 Richard, b. 1699 (twin) Samawell, b. 1699 (twin) Mary was not mentioned in her husband's will, so probably died before 1740. There is a marriage recorded in Andover for a Benjamin Harden and Elizabeth Holt. A death in Wilmington VRs in 1734 for an Elizabeth, wife of Benjamin. Elizabeth is probably a second wife for Benjamin, giving a likely death for Mary between 1699-1711. No death is recorded for Mary in either Wilminton or Reading Vital records.
Research notes
If the second Martha survived her father, then the "two small children" mentioned in the administration request in 1691 must be Mary & Martha. If the second Martha died before April 1691, and Samuel had another child born to him, it is not recorded in Woburn with his other children.
