Mary Cross

Peter married Mary and they moved from Ipswich, MA to Windham, CT in the 1690s where they were pioneer settlers. After Mary died giving birth to her 8th child, Peter married Mary Wade and had two more children. They lived in the part of Windham which became Mansfield, CT.

Birth

Birth: 03 JUN 1659, Norwich, New London, Connecticut.[citation needed] This information comes from assorted Ancestry Trees, and it is a fairly believable date of birth. Like playing a game of telephone, the progression that came to this date is probably as follows: Stiles' History of Windsor: Cross, "Peter, had Peter b. 17 Dec 1756. Mary, b. 3 June 1759.[1] Cutter's Gen. and Fam. Hist of Conn.: "Peter, son of William Cross... Children: Peter, born June 5 1650, ...; Mary, June 3, 1659." We know that Peter Cross married Mary Wade. Court, land and probate documents prove this. It would seem that the marriage of Peter and Mary, and the birth of their children was not recorded in Norwich, Connecticut. When they settled in Windham about 1692, their children were recorded there. The first was born in 1679.

Death

Death: 09 DEC 1695 Windham, Windham, Connecticut. This date is based on the notion that Mary the first wife died in childbirth 9 Dec 1695. But no records support this date. Death: Mary, wife of Peter Cross, d. January 8, 1739-40[2] Children

Children of Peter & Mary as recorded in Windham, Connecticut. Vol A p 31, although most of them would have been born in Norwich. Windham at its incorporation in 1692 was part of New London County and did not become a county of its own until 1726.
