Excerpt about Alice from a biography written by Janice Deckard Walters about her father Willis Donald:
...Dad was born and raised in the Linton-Switz City area in southern middle of the state of Indiana. When he was about 16 years old his mother died. He was the second oldest of seven – Belvia, Lodema, Jane, Otis, Marvella, Elijah, the youngest being Benjamin* who was just a baby when his mother died. I’m not too sure what caused her death, but she had not been in good health for a while before she died. Lodema remembers when they drove her away in a wagon. She was in pain and when the wagon hit a hole in the road she let out a loud cry. Dad came north after her death and I don’t really know what brought him up this way, but I don't think he got along with his dad much and that was one a reason he left home. He had an aunt and uncle living up here and he came to live with them and work. That aunt and uncle were Lon and Daisy Musser. Lon was Grandma Deckard's brother and Daisy was Grandpa Deckard's sister. I believe dad’s father, George, was a coal miner.
- Ben was adopted by Gould and Iva Kennedy shortly after Alice's death.
