About Mary Eather
Robert and Mary are known to have had no fewer than 83 grandchildren born between 1840 and 1888. Mary died at North Richmond on 8 June 1853 at the age of 51 and her large tomb still stands in the Roman Catholic portion of the Windsor Cemetery. Its admonitory inscription reads:
In Memory of Mary Eather
Died 9th June 1853 Aged 51 Years
Survived by nine children to mourn her loss
' Remember Stranger as you pass by
As you are now so once was I
As I am now so shall you be
So prepare for Death and follow me'
She was, in fact, survived by ten children but Charlotte may have died before the tomb was built.
