Rev. Hobart's journal does include the baptisms of three Gilford children:
Unfortunately, Rev. Hobart didn't record the names of the parents.
Two weeks after Priscilla's baptism, Rev. Hobart's journal records the death of '"Widow Mary Gilford"' on 7 May 1660. Proximity of time and place, together with the common surname, suggests that Mary Gilford was the mother of Priscilla, perhaps dying due to complications from childbirth two weeks earlier. By the same token, it is natural to suppose that Priscilla was the sister of the two older Gilford children, Susanna and Paul.
We know that Susanna and Paul Gilford were brother and sister, because they are named as such in the will of their maternal grandmother, Widow Ann Tucker.[3] WARNING: Paul Gilford had a WIFE (as well as a sister) named Susanna, and at least one respected genealogist has confused the two.[4]
Before marrying John Tucker, Ann was the widow of William Nolton, who was identified as the grandfather of Paul Gilford in a 1681 land record.[5]
