In 1900 William was a wood chopper in Ollie, Jackson Township, Keokuk Co., IA (page 77) with his wife Mary E. and children Manuel A., Clatie R.(?), Ethel R., and Floy E.; they reported having 7 children with 4 living. In 1910 he was a house plasterer in Jackson, Keokuk Co. with Mary and 6 children.

From the "Ollie Centennial", pg. 85:

William Halferty, son of Robert and Rachel Crowner Halferty, was born in Jefferson County near Fairfield. The family moved to Keokuk County east of Ollie and lived on a farm where he grew to manhood. This farm is now owned by Bertha Snakenberg. William married Mary E. Altman of Kansas. They farmed for several years near Ollie and later moved into town. They lived in the house now owned by Eloise Baumgartner. They reared ten children. Only two of these children survive, Ethel Wonderlich of Ollie and Bertha Waters of Marion, Iowa.

Mary was a wonderful seamstress and sewed for many people in and near Ollie. She made the uniforms for Ollie's baseball team. William was a mason by trade.
