Mary Ann Goulding (Atkinson) arrived in Sydney Cove on 2nd June 1790 on the female convict ship 'Lady Juliana', also known as the floating brothel. She was convicted of stealing 4 yards of printed cotton, she was sentenced to death. She received a pardon and was transported to the penal colony for 7 years. The voyage took a full year from Portsmouth to Sydney. 245 women and some babies on board were treated and fed well. Mary became pregnant on the journey and had a girl Ann.
