From Norfolk Island Thomas was transferred to the penal settlement of Newcastle in 1807, where he became involved with one Mary Johnson who appears to have also had a liking for other people's silver. She was convicted at the Old Bailey Fourth Sessions 1808 of stealing half a dozen tea-spoons from Mary Ward, who had employed her as a kitchen maid some two weeks prior to the theft. She arrived in Sydney Cove aboard the "Aeolus" in 1809. On 15th February 1810 at St. Philips she married Edward Webb who gave his occupation as a Mariner. Edward apparently did not stay around very long, he was not listed in the 1811 Muster and it's probable that given his occupation he returned to the very hazardous life of a seaman, and perhaps never returned. A child George seems to have resulted from this union, his birth was not registered but a George Webb born about 1810, was listed as living with the Crumps in the 1822 Muster, and was still associated with the family in the 1828 Census.
