Mary Elizabeth Johnson

Mary Elizabeth Small was born in 1856 and spent her early life on Woodford Island. She married at nineteen years of age, Dan Campbell who died soon after their marriage. At forty seven years of age she married her cousin, Wilford Johnson (son of William and Annie Johnson - nee Small). Wilford was considered an excellent judge of cattle and horses and was considered one of the leading cattlemen of the Clarence District. Mary Elizabeth was loved and respected by all that had the pleasure of knowing her. They went to live at 49 Pound Street, Grafton in 1921 for the remainder of their lives. I can I think remember going to see this lady when I was 11 when I was in Grafton with my parents. my mother was Olive Chalmers (Johnson)
