About Mary Kercheval
Oldest daughter of Robert Pottenger and Elizabeth Willet. who came from MD. She married James Kercheval (son of Samuel Kercheval and Margaret Harrison Kercheval) about 1776 in Martinsburg, VA. They had eight children and also "took in" all of Mary's orphaned brothers and sisters. In late 1795 or 76, they followed Mary's brother, Capt Samuel Pottenger, on a return trip to the fort he had established in Nelson County, KY in 1781 where he had moved his siblings. A year or two later, James bought land and moved the family to Preble Co, Ohio and built a mill on Four Mile Creek after 1800. Mary died in 1804 at the age of 48, James died in the Cincinatti area in 1824 at the age of 74.
Their children were Benjamin b 1777, Sarah b 1779, Elizabeth b 1782, Nancy b 1784, Rueban b 1785, Samuel P. b 1788, John b 1791 and Lewis b 1794.
