Mary Etta King

Mary Etta (Daugherty) King was born on Dec. 31, 1983 in the Marsh Creek area of Whitley Co., (now McCreary Co.). She The daughter of Hiram Clay Daugherty (1838-1908) and Eliza Jane Bridges (1848-1920), she was the fourth of their seven known children.

Her father Hiram was born in Campbell Co., Tennessee. He was the son of Elisha Daugherty (2808-2968) and Lovina Marcum (1810-1890).

Her mother Eliza was also born in Tennessee (Campbell Co. ?). She was the daughter of Arthur Marcum (1774-1832) and Anna Bransgrove (1778-1830).

On July 22, 1900 Mary Etta married John Prince King (1905-1990) in Scott Co., Tennessee. Born in Whitley Co., KY, he was the son of Joshua William King (1937-1894) and Rachel Clarinda Meadors (1839-1912).

Mary and John were married for 58 years and had seven known children. They were Everett King (1901-1982), Willie King (1903-1904), Virgil Prince King (1905-1990), Haywood King (1907-2003), Herbert King (1909-2003), Mitchell King (1912-1997) and Willard King (1916-1975).

Mary's husband John died on Nov. 4, 1958 in McCreary Co., KY at the age of 82. He was buried in the Duncan Cemetery located near Kingtown in McCreary Co., KY.

Mary died in McCreary Co., KY on Mar. 24, 1960 at the age of 81. She too, was buried in the Duncan Cemetery, next to her husband John. Six of their seven sons are also buried in this cemetery.
