Boston, MA: Inhabitants and Estates of the Town of Boston, 1630-1822 (Thwing Collection) documents information for Mary Langdon as being the wife of Joseph Proctor. Mary Proctor "wife of Joseph Proctor" is listed as an heir in the will of John Langdon (ca 1650-1732). However, she is not listed as one of his six children in the will. John Langdon's daughter Mary married a Hunt and she is listed as Mary Hunt in the will. So, Mary Langdon Proctor is related to John Langdon, but not his daughter. John Langdon's daughter Margaret married Benjmain Proctor who was the brother of the Joseph Proctor married to Mary Langdon. So after more looking, the mystery appears to be almost resolved. Mary Langdon who married Joseph Proctor appears to be Mary Hunt, daughter of Thomas Hunt. She was first married to a John Langdon in 1713 and was a widow when she married Joseph Proctor. Still working out the relationship between the John Langdon who married Mary Hunt and the John Langdon who mentions Mary Proctor wife of Joseph Proctor in his will; according to an article in the NEHGS, volume 30, p. 35, this John Langdon is a son of John Langdon (1650-1732); the younger John was a mariner who died in 1722, but his birth date is given as 1698 and since the marriage to Mary Hunt was 1713 that seems a little iffy. But the elder John Langdon acted as a surety on a bond given June 14, 1722 by Mary Langdon as the administratrix of her husband John's estate. (Information on the Hunt connection from Genealogy of the Name and Family of Hunt, 1863, p. 317.) The line for Mary Hunt appears to trace through parents Thomas Hunt and Judith Torrey; the parents of Thomas Hunt were Ephraim Hunt, Sr. and Ann Richards. Ann Richards, the daughter of Thomas Richards is documented in "The Great Migration Begins" volume III under the entry for Thomas Richards.
A deed transferring land to settle the estate of Thomas Hunt in 1724 settles the issue of the identity of Mary Hunt as wife of Joseph Proctor. Deed, Jan 20, 1724, heirs sold house in Linn Street - viz.,Ephraim Hunt, blacksmith, and wife Joanna; Samuel Hunt, shipwright, and wife Mary; Ebenezer Hunt, merchant, and wife Elizabeth; John Roberts, boat builder, and wife Ann; Joseph Proctor, tailor, and wife Mary; Eliza Farmer, widow (children of Thomas Hunt) - to their brother John Hunt.
