OBITUARY:
Niles Republican, Niles, Michigan, Sat., Aug. 9, 1856, p. 2.
Died.
In this village on the 2d inst., Mrs. MARY JANE, wife of Joseph C. Larimore, in the 45th year of her age.
The deceased had been a resident of Niles for twenty two years, and was consequently one of the earliest inhabitants. During all this time she was an active and devoted member of the Presbyterian Church, and one among those by whom it was first organized.
She possessed a mind of superior order, refined, and cultivated, and more than ordinary intelligent.
In her domestic and social relations as a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, the traits of her character were beautiful and attractive, and she was, hence, universally loved, by all who really knew and could appreciate her excellences.
In her death, not only her family, but the church has met with an irreparable loss.--scarcely in her home will she be more missed than in the house of God, and in the social prayer meeting. Through storm and sunshine, heat and cold, by day and by night, her place was always filled, when not prevented by sickness.
Her love to the Saviour was manifestly of an elevated and ardent character. For years previous to her death, it was obvious to all who associated with her that she was rapidly growing in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. So marked was this, that some felt that God was fitting her for a higher sphere in his kingdom to which he intended soon to call ....... [smudged].
"And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me,
"write, Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord. Yea,
"saith the Spirit from henceforth, that they may rest
"from their labors and their works do follow them."
