About Mary Eliza Locklear
Mary was the daughter of Sandy, Sr. and Effie Hunt Brooks. She was the first wife of Alec "Chesley" Locklear.
The following was taken from the Mar. 19, 1948 edition of THE ROBESONIAN:
Mrs. Mary Eliza Brooks Locklear, 65, wife of Chesley Locklear and well-known Robeson Indian woman, died at her home in Pembroke Thursday morning. The funeral will be held from St. Anna church Sunday, March 21, at 2 p.m.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Carrie Lee Deese and Mrs. Aggie Deese of Pembroke, Route 1; seven brothers, James Olin Brooks of Fairmont; Raymond, Ed, Andrew, Johnnie and Peter Brooks of Pembroke and Joseph Brooks of Washington, D.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Gordon Dial of Pembroke, Mrs. Henry Oxendine of Lumberton and Mrs. Shaw Deese of Maxton; 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
