Mary Mainwaring was the daughter of Oliver Mainwaring, Gent. of Exeter, Devon and Windleshaw (in Prescot), Lancashire and Margaret Torbock, daughter of William Torbock, Esq. of Tarbock (in Huyton), Lancashire.[1][3][4]
Marriage
Mary Mainwaring "married before 16 July 1641 Benjamin Gill, Gent."[2]
"Mary, wife of Benjamin Gill, Gent.,... daughter of 'Margrett Mainwaringe of Wyndleshaw in the County of Lancaster, Widdow'" (indenture dated 16 July 1641, "Lancashire Rec. Office, Preston").[2]
"Presumably they are Benjamin Gill, styled both Getleman and yeoman, of St. Andrew's, Holborn, tailor, and his wife, Mary (also called Anne), who were indicted for recusancy and not attending church in 1626" and subsequent years.[2][3] This would seem to indicate that they were married no later than 1626.
Benjamin immigrated to Maryland in 1642.[2][3]
Children
Benjamin & Mary had one daughter,
Disputed Children:
Name: "Isebella" was entered as her middle name, but lacks support in text. Name currently "Ann "Mary" Maria (Mainwaring) Gill" is intended as best option based on Richardson, who notes:
"It would appear that Benjamin Gill's wife's full name was Ann Maria, like their daughter, as she is called Anne and Mary indifferently in English records".[2]
Robert Brooks: Robert Brooks was detached as a spouse. There is no mention of Brooks name in Douglas Richardson's documentation. Marriage to Robert in 1635, however, is unlikely, assuming Mary and Benjamin are the couple indicted in 1626 (and they were still married when they emigrated to Maryland in 1642).
Disputed Children: See above. Only Anne Maria is mentioned in Richardson.[2]
