Her death was reported in Ayr Advertiser, on 25th July 1889, stating 'Ayr Farm, Quanti River, Stutterheim, Cape Colony, on 20th June, Mary Margaret Douglas, in her 53d year, beloved wife of John Ferguson, late ploughman at East Sanquhar, St Quivox, Ayr.'
