Mary Boone

Mary Maugridge is not the granddaughter of John Milton the poet. Despite what various sources might say, giving Mary Milton/Melton as her mother, that Mary Melton was not the daughter of John Milton the poet. The records given for her all have her born in Devonshire and married in Devonshire; Milton was born and died in London (though he spent his college years in Cambridge), and his daughter Mary was born in 1648 in London. Moreover, Milton published Paradise Lost in 1667, about the time that Mary Milton/Melton married John Maugridge; Mary the daughter of the poet had been up until that time involved in helping with the manuscript. We have no record of John Milton's daughter being married.
