Mary McCloud

Mrs. Mary McCloud (nee Tobie) is #1129 on the 1907 Wooster Roll. The roll spells her name "Tobi" but that is a non standard spelling since the rest of the family uses the spelling "Tobie". As with her siblings, her grandfather is recorded on the roll as "Assanashkam" which is clear in the original handwritten copy but has been mistranscribed in the typewritten 2014 Wyckoff transcript. By deduction the parents of Mary McCloud are John Tobie (born about 1819, son of Assanashkam) and Susan Tobie (born about 1814, daughter of Ogamawadj). Mary Mcloud's traditional name is recorded as "Wasseieban" meaning "Day Dawn" but the name as given and its translation require screutiny and comment by those with expertise in the nuances of the Anishinaabemown language and Potawatomi culture.

In 1907 Mrs. Mary McCloud was living at Cape Croker Reservation but her daughter Mrs. Therese Manitowabi # 1130 was living on Manitoulin Island at Wikwemikong Indian Reservation and a second daughter, Mrs. Mary Tebassige # 1455, was living at West Bay, Manitoulin Island. Mrs. Mary McCloud held full rights in Canada.
