About Mary McGuire - Worley, Free Settler "John Brewer" 1842

Born in Ireland in c1820, and possibly accompanied her husband on "John Brewer" in 1842 - probability is that she was pregnant on the voyage and had Mary Ann soon after her arrival in Sydney. First free white woman (or one of first fifty white women - including convicts) to arrive at Moreton Bay (May 1842)!!!! Illerate. Jan 1853 - When her first husband died, she was left with two little girls. 23 Dec 1853 - appeared at the Police Office to answer the complaint of Mrs Mary Conolly, who charged the defendant with slapping her face, by way of enforcing an argument in he course of a discussion at South Brisbane on Sunday last. No great damage seemed to have been done, and a fine of 5s, with costs, settled the matter.

1855 - Settled in the Nerang District with second husband. Acted as midwife to first white baby (Billy DUNCAN) born on Nerang River, also midwife to grandson Richard THOMPSON.!!!!

Now she survived two husbands, and both her daughters also survived two husbands. (Strong stock). Her second husband died in 1882 in Nerang, and in 1884, her eldest daughter died, leaving 3 children from the first marriage and two youngsters from her second marriage as orphans. Mary WORLEY packed up from Nerang and moved to Esk to raise the five grandchildren, ranging in age from 15yrs to under 3 yrs. Mary WORLEY may have only been 64 yrs young when she undertook this task..
