About Mary Milford Windeatt Blatchford

Mary was the 2nd child of Alicia Windeatt & Rev. Samuel Blatchford, D.D. Her siblings were: Henry, Alicia Windeatt, Sarah, Samuel, Thomas Windeatt (all born in England), Harriet Peacock, Samuel Milford, Richard Milford, John, Sophia, Frederick, George Edgecumbe, Charles Baynham, Ethelinda Jane, George Edgecumbe 2nd, and Edgecumbe Heath "Benjamin".

Excerpts from the following obituary was written by Dr. James C. Bliss of New York, pusblished in the New York Observer, August 1847:

"There was such a beautiful blending of those graces which ennoble and adorn Christian character, in this estimable lady, that something more than an ordinary obituary notice seems proper.....

Miss Blatchford, under faithful parental training and example, and prayer, which took hold on the convenant faithfulness of god, became at an early age, a subject of divine grace.... ......the writer of this run back to the period when she began her Christian course. He remembers her devotional habits, her spiritual-mindedness, her watchfulness over her own heart, her self-distrust and deep sense of unworthiness, and her reliance on the atoning sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ.....unruffled temper, meekness, humility and deep sympathy for all who where suffering....
As Miss B. advance to mature life, the character of her piety became more fully developed and manifested in all the relations of life. It was particularly exhibited in the family relation, in her devotion to her honored parents, in the deep interest she felt in her brothers and sisters......
Few have spent a life of more unobtrusive usefulness, and few will have their memory ore richly embalmed in the hearts of surviving friends.
Miss B. was subject, from early life, to attacks of violent disease. In 1844, she had a severe and dangerous illness, from the effects of which she never fully recovered, and she was ever able afterwards to resume the active duties of life."

The dates on her gravestone are incorrect, at least as transcribed on the internet. I am unsure that it is the same on the actual stone. But the cemetery inscription on the internet is that she was born Jan. 11, 1799 (should be 1790) and died Aug. 17, 1817 (should be 1947).
