According to the NEHGR Vol 168, page 20, the wife of Samuel Sherman was Sarah Mitchell, baptized October 14, 1621 in Halifax, Yorkshire, thedaughter of Matthew and Susan (Wood) (Butterfield) Mitchell. That article also says that the descendants of Samuel and Sarah can be found in two sources: Roy V. Sherman, "The New England Shermans" (Palo Alto, California, 1974), pages 169-288 and Donald Lines Jacobus, "History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield" 3 vols. (Fairfield, Conn, 1976), Vol 1, pages 540-547, Vol 2, pages 834-835.

Sherman"]:"From this point, there is a disagreement between the Rev. David Sherman and Thomas Townsend Sherman as to the correct line of Sherman ancestry. The Rev. David Sherman records this Samuel Sherman as the son ofEdmund Sherman and Judith Angier, with Edmund descending from Henry and Henry. Thomas Townsend Sherman identifies Samuel as the son of Edmund Sherman and Joan Makin, and that Edmund descends from the line of Edmund, Henry, Thomas, John, Thomas (although the case for connecting Henry to Thomas now appears decidedly faulty; see the entry for Henry Sherman, husband of Agnes, for more on that). Donald Jacobus supports the contention that this Samuel is the son the Edmund Sherman of Dedham, but regards the identity of Edmund's wife as Joan Makin as less thanconclusive.
