About Mary Moore

Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Wellman-272

Mary Wellman was born sometime in 1650, the eldest daughter of William Wellman and Elizabeth Spencer, who married in 1649.[1] She was probably born at Killingworth or New London, Connecticut. It should be noted that the transcription of her father's 1672 probate records suggests that Mary was 31 years old in 1671/2[2] (likely a typo and she was aged 21). If she was age 31/born 1640, she could be the daughter of William Wellman by a first wife. Original records should be viewed to check this discrepancy.

She married first in January 1666 to Thomas Howard[3] of Norwich, Connecticut, in January, 1666.[1] Thomas died on 17 December 1675 in the Great Swamp Fight near the end of King Philip's War.[citation needed] They had five children:

  1. Mary Howard, born Dec 1667[3]
  2. Sarah Howard, born Feb 1669,[3] married Joseph Gere and has issue[1]
  3. Martha Howard, born Feb 1672 and died a month later[3]
  4. Thomas Howard, born March 1673,[3] died in childhood[1]
  5. Benjamin Howard, born June 1675.[3] settled in Windham, married, and had 4 children[1]

Following the death of Thomas Howard, she married William Moore, also in Norwich, in August 1677.[3] He died in April of 1729. They had children:

  1. Elizabeth Moore, born 20 Jul 1679,[3] married Daniel Edwards and had 7 children[1]
  2. Experience Moore, born 12 May 1680[3]
  3. Martha Moore, born 22 Feb 1681[3]
  4. Joshua Moore, born 1683, died 1756, married Dorothy Badcock[1]
  5. William Moore, died 23 Jan 1700,[4] unmarried, born in 1685[1]
  6. Abigail Moore, born 1687, died 1719, married Caleb Badcock[1]

Mary Wellman died on April 3, 1700, age 50.[1]
