About Mary Mountain
Mary's father died when she was a child and her mother, who was well educated started a school in her own home to support them, but didn't educate Mary. Mary never learned to read or write. After her marriage she and her husband spent many night playing cribbage so she must have had a smattering of arithmetic. She was a very small, active woman, and in her later years lived with her daughter Annie. She kneaded a stone (14 lbs) of bread the day before she died. She also suffered with asthma and had her bed in the living room every winter.
Mary & William had 14 children.
