Mary Ann Oakes

Mary Ann Shelley married George Oakes on 25th.May,1837.Mary was born at Parramatta on 12th.December 1810 and died also at Parramatta on 16th.November 1865.

Mary was the daughter of William Shelley Snr. and cousin of the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley.

Little is recorded about Mary Ann Oakes except that she had three children, all boys, to George Oakes.

Published in "The Sydney Monitor" of Monday 29 May 1837:

"Marriage. On Thursday last, the 25th instant, by special license, at St. John's Church, Parramatta, by the Reverend Mr. Bobart, George Oakes, Esq., of Crooksell, to Mary Ann, youngest daughter of the late William Shelley, Esq , of Parramatta."
