About Mary Louise Palmer

Mary Louise Poole Palmer Obituary- written by Connie P. Bozeman Published The Albany Herald, March 3, 2008 and The Sylvester (Ga.)Local Thursday, March 6, 2008

Mary Louise Poole Palmer, 91, of the Isabella community of Worth County, GA passed away at her home on Monday, March 3, 2008, surrounded by her loving family and friends. It had always been her wish that she be allowed to stay in her home until the day she died; God granted that wish and took care of her just as she told everyone He would. Born on August 12, 1916 to the late Homer Iverson Poole, Sr. and Eunice Carolyn Murray Poole, of Sylvester, Worth County, Ga, Louise was the granddaughter of Thomas Jefferson Poole and Louisa Sophrina Walters Poole and Elder James Monroe (Mun) Murray and Mary Ammons Lightner Murray, all of Ellaville, Schley County, Ga.

Louise attended Sylvester schools and worked in Dougherty Co, Ga and Petal, Miss. She married Flavins (Frank) Parris in Worth County, in 1943 and Edward Maurice Palmer of Petal, Mississippi on September 16, 1946.
Louise and Maurice made their home in Petal until her mother passed away in 1962. She moved her home back to Georgia to her father’s in order to care for him until his death and continued to live in Isabella and become a vital part of the community and Poole Family.
She became “Mammy” to Cindy Poole and Susan Poole Spradley, daughters of her brother, Raymond Poole, and was always there to help all family members as needed. She cared deeply about her whole family. She loved to fish, garden, walk, travel, complete find-a word puzzles, and serve the Lord through her beloved Isabella Baptist Church. She sang in the church choir, was a loving member of the Homemaker’s Sunday School Class and the W.M.U. She was a member of the Sylvester Recreation Department’s Pep Club. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Palmer, on September 26, 1965, and by her brothers, Murray Jefferson Poole of Moultrie, Ga, Charles Edwin Poole of Albany, Ga, Robert Louis Poole of Savannah, Ga, H. I. Poole, Jr and Raymond Evans Poole, both of Sylvester and Henry Grady Poole of Ashburn, Ga. She was also preceded in death by a baby sister, Dorothy Beatrice Poole, in 1920. She is survived by her sister, Ruby Mildred Poole Palmer of Petal, Mississippi, and two sisters-in-law, Lucia Politelli Poole of Savannah, Ga and Mary Jane Bliss Poole of Sylvester, Ga. Twenty-six nieces and nephews and a host of great-nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral will be Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Isabella Baptist Church in Worth County, Ga with internment in Hillcrest Cemetery of Sylvester. Visitation for family and friends will at Banks Funeral Home in Sylvester on Wednesday, March 5, 2008.

Palmer Obit page 2 The services will be conducted by the Reverend Al Wilbourn and Rev. Jason Jones. Active Pallbearers will be her loving nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Albany Community Hospice, 2332 Lake Park Drive, Albany, GA 31707 or to the Isabella Baptist Church at 134 Old Mail Road, Sylvester, Ga. 31791. Services are under the direction of Banks Funeral Home of Sylvester, Ga.

- from talk with Cindy, May 39, 2009- Aunt Louise told Cindy Poole that she was unable to have children. Also said that she made Mildred's wedding dress, but was unaware that was what she did until Mildred did not come home that night and called back from Columbus, Ga. Mildred and James and Raymond and Bettie both spent their honeymoon in the porch room at mama Poole's house in Sylvester. Mary Jane said she and Iverson spent their honeymoon in Brunswick, but later moved into that room until James and Mildred moved back to Mississippi and out of the house he built--which became Iverson's house . (Though not given to Iverson by his father until years later- see deeds at Worth County courthouse. )
