Mary Elizabeth van Pelt was born in Illinois July 12, 1856. She moved with her parents to Iowa in 1867. At the age of 14 years she became a member of the Baptist church. In 1873 she was married to Benjamin Rawlings. To this union were born 6 children, Albert, Will, Roy, George and Alice--one girl having died in infancy. The five children grew to manhood and womanhood in Iowa. Albert and Alice (Mrs. Edmonds) have passed from this life.
She is one of seven children, five girls and two boys. She leaves to mourn her loss one sister, Mrs L.E. Squier and S. Vanpelt, a brother, thirteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of friends.
Her husband died in 1917.
Funeral services were held by Rev B.F. Hall Monday afternoon, October 31 at Oak Grove school house and burial took place in Oak Grove cemetery.
Music was furnished by Mrs Zora Duncan, teacher at Oak Grove and B.F. Hall.
