About Mary Margarite Rincke

While a lot of circumstantial evidence points to Mary, the wife of Johann Frantz Rinck being the daughter of Leonard Killian, there is no proof. (See Mary Margaret Killian, #3247). No one has found a marriage document, a will, or anything that gives her maiden name. There are items that seemingly point in that direction, but no direct

evidence. Some of those facts are recited here.

Michael Cline, son in law to Leonard Killian, served as witness for

the marriage of Susannah Rinck to Benjamin Spencer, Jr. Michael Cline was a son in law of Leonard Killian, however Michael Cline, Esq. was a Justice of the Peace in Lincoln County, North Carolina, and thus it would have been a part of his usual and customary duties to witness such marriage bonds. His name appears as witness for many marriages in Lincoln County.

Many of Leonard Killian's grandchildren moved to Tennessee, Alabama and Indiana, at about the same time as many of the Rinck children.

While we don't know the exact age of Leonard Killian's daughter, Mary, we do know that she was at the age to have been married to Frantz Rinck.

Leonard's grandchildren moved with the Rincke (also found as Rinck or Rinks or just Rink) grandchildren several times, appearing on the same census pages with them in more than one state, sometimes intermarrying with them, and the Killian and Rinck descendants were often buried in the same cemeteries.

Mary left Franz with small children before he died. Researchers have found a bastardy bond posted by Frantz Rinck concerning a child born out of wedlock. That is probably the reason for Mary's disappearance. It does appear that she returned by the time of the 1810 census, at which time he was near death. She had to go to court to contest his will in order to gain her share of his estate. In court she did prevail. There is also a Mary Ring/Rinck that could have been their daughter (no proof) who married a John Mull on Dec. 29, 1807 in Lincoln, County, North Carolina. Their Bondsman was Abraham Seitz (Sitz).
