About Mary Jane "Polly" Stevens - Irwin
Reminiscenes of Vera Cox (nee Irwin) granddaughter of Mary Jane as compiled in book by Gary Bryant
'I feel Gran had a pretty hard life to raise a family in those days, I was able to keep in touch with her. Wen I was quite young my mohter took my brother and myselft to Tamworth in school holidays to stay with Gran, we all enjoyed our stay as she was so kind and good to us all.
After I was married she came to Ashford for a visit and stay with me and my husband for a while, it was lovely. I will nver forget her, she would help anyone that came along. She was really hardworking and owned her own home in Tamworth, it was a nice brick home sher would keep it as neat as a pin and out the back she had the most beautiful flower garden. which she cared for herself and she also had some hens.
In her later years she failed and lost her memory, she passsed asway and was buired in Tamworth on 2nd September 1931.
Grandfather Irwin passed away at Warialda and was buried there on the 5th August 1922.'
