About Mary Ellen Toy
Mary Ellen (Bowser) Toy, 89, formerly of 406 South McKean St., Kittanning, died at 5:30 a.m. yesterday (July 4, 1960) in Fair Rest Home in Applewold, where she had been a patient for the past seven days. She made her home with Mrs. Bessie Smith, 412 West Jefferson Street, Butler, before entering the rest home. Mrs. Toy was born July 11, 1870, in Walk Chalk, a daughter of the late Felix and Mary (Bowser) Bowser. She was a member of the Faith United Presbyterian Church, Kittanning. Surviving are four sons, Merle M. of Youngstown, Ohio, Harry H. of California, Roy C. of Kittanning RD3, and Robert L of Tokyo, Japan, four daughters, Mrs. Alda Shannon, Youngstown, Ohio, Mrs. Bessie Smith, of Butler, Mrs. Ada Burdette of Ford City, and Mrs. Goldie Wess of Tarentum; two brothers, Harry and Ray of Worthington; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Bowser of Butler, and Mrs. Ivy Bish of Butler; 28 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; 29 great-great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Bauer funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., where funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Dr. Orville J. Flemming, pastor of Faith United Presbyterian Church will conduct the service. Burial will be made in Lawn Haven Burial Estates.
